Demands for an apology from the runaway bride in Florida are increasing. I certainly feel that she should apologize to her town and the hundreds of volunteers that looked for her. However, one call is way out of line:
On Tuesday, Fernando Mateo, president of Hispanics Across America, a New York-based group, called for an apology to the Hispanic population of the United States, and especially those living in Georgia and New Mexico, because Wilbanks had falsely accused a Hispanic man of kidnapping her.
“The Hispanic community has been hurt enough,” Mateo said. “She should apologize to us first, then her fiance and her family.”
If she had claimed that a white man had kidnapped her, could white men demand an apology?
