This is exciting, as I can now get into “serious” photography with a digital camera. My Sony DSC-W1 is a great little digital camera, but like any point-and-shoot, it doesn’t offer the control that a good SLR does. I do own an SLR, a Minolta X-700, but it hasn’t been out of its bag in a few years since it isn’t digital.

I took my first photos with the Sigma yesterday: around my house with the macro lens, and around Cal Poly with a wide-angle lens. Unfortunately, my Cal Poly trip was cut short by dead batteries, but I still managed to capture a few interesting shots. Lesson: carry spare batteries!

I’ve posted a new photo gallery on my pictures site. That gallery will be dedicated to photography for its own sake, rather than the more typical family or travel type of gallery.

But, as of now, entering Fuck Cal Poly into Google returns my very own humble site at position #1. The offending post? Cal Poly Band by the Numbers of course!

All I can say is, “heh”.

The link Google provides is actually wrong, since I renamed Other Pages to About, but whatever — it’s still funny. (This will work itself out the next time Google crawls my site.)

I want to be a Cal Poly student. I want to be a card-carrying part of San Luis’ population that can put upholstered furniture in the front yard in the rain till it turns black with fungus and mildew.

I want to park in the fire lanes and no one does a darn thing about it. I want to let my friends toss hundreds of red beer cups in the streets and no one charges me a single dime. I want the Police Department to tell my neighbors to move when they call at 2 a.m., complaining of noise.

“What did you expect, Mr. and Mrs. Jones? You live in a college town. Now let them have their fun.”

Yeah, I want that.

Sigh. Maybe it’s time to move.
